Do you feel you’re ready and prepared for Game Day? Sometimes I feel I am, but find myself scrambling to prepare appetizers and food for my guests. Proper preparation and a few little tips will truly make things easier. I find that choosing delicious foods are most definitely important, but also foods that leave me free to enjoy the game. Crostini are one of my go to appetizers when I’m feeding a small crowd. They are versatile little bites, and don’t take up much time or preparation. Also, preparing my ingredients the day before, allows me plenty of free time when the big game airs.
When choosing ingredients at my local Walmart, I wanted to choose quality items that would make preparation fast and easy. Using Hunt’s diced tomatoes, WOLF Chili, a fresh french baguette from the Walmart bakery, and fresh cilantro from the Walmart produce section, I had all the items I needed to prepare a fast, yet mouth watering ball game finger food.
Tips for fresh & fast Game Day Chili Crostini:
- Prepare the crostini rounds the day before. Crisping up these baguette rounds early is easy and saves time on game day. After they have crisped in the oven, allow them to cool completely and store in a ziplock bag at room temperature.
- Drain your tomatoes and place in a airtight microwaveable container in the refrigerator.
- Also place chili in a microwaveable container and in the fridge to prep for game day food preparation.
- Heat the tomatoes and chili at the same time.
- On Game Day, have an assembly line set up to build you crostini- Have your crips baguette rounds lined up and ready for the chili fixings.
All of these tips will have crostini preparation cut down to a matter of minutes. No one will ever know these beautiful little game snacks were so simple to put together. I found that the Walmart products I chose, from the Hunt’s diced tomatoes to the WOLF Chili, saved me so much time. I didn’t miss any of the game, and my guests were happy and their tastebuds fully satisfied.
Using burlap I had purchased from Walmart, I also created a football centerpiece that I placed on my giant living room ottoman. These delicious little appetizers were now front and center, ready to be devoured as we all cheered at the big screen. I really loved the ease of preparation, and my friends requested these little tasty dudes for the next game day get together.
